Bikaner Camel Festival 2012
09th September 2011
From the 8 to the 9 of January 2012 the Bikaner Camel Festival will take place in a small nearby village (Ladera).
The festival starts with a procession of bedecked camels - a colourful spectacle of beautifully decorated camels - against the red sandstone backdrop of the Junagarh Fort.
In the open sand-spreads of the Polo Grounds there are camel races, camel milking, fur cutting design, the best breed competition, camel acrobatics, camel bands and so on. The camels display amazing footwork, dancing gracefully to the slightest direction of their riders.
The displays and competitions accompany the colour, music and rhythm unique to a fair in Rajasthan. The skirt-swirling dancers, the fire dancers and fireworks light up the fortified Desert City.
